Debian Squeeze (Debian 6) on DNS-323 rev. C1 devices success

Hi

I was able to install Debian Squeeze directly on a D-Link DNS-323 rev. C1 device, from the stock 1.08 firmware, with great hand holding from Debian contributors.

There is a bug report about this in Debian:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=617219

I happened to have a C1 device available, and I reported my findings there and was guided through creating a new netboot.img which ultimately flashed as expected. I completed the installation and the system boots/works as expected smile

This part of the discussion on the bug report indicates how to download the existing netboot.img which works for B1 devices and modify it to make it work on C1 devices:

The original instructions to flash B1 devices are here:
http://www.cyrius.com/debian/orion/d-li … stall.html

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

If you do, please consider reporting back to the bug report directly, specially if you find anything new/significant that hasn't been mentioned.

Here are some notes  about post-install configuration originally for a DNS325 which may apply to the 323:

If anyone has pointers to useful information on where to go / what to do from here to complete such a setup (my main interest is as a NFS/MiniDLNA server), I'd love to know about those. I am new on this forum so I'll browse around but having links in this thread will probably be useful for others landing here.

So changing a rev number from 3 to 4 makes it work, ha. Good work finding the old bug-report and being willing to experiment.
