Can't run executables (.exe) files on DNS-323 firmware 1.04 and 1.05

Hi

Has anyone encounter this problem before?
My DNS-323 is configured without any users or group, everyone has read/write access to \Volume_1
I can create text files, folders, Word docs, etc...
I can save an .exe file to this share but if I double-click on it to run it, I get the following error message:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I've tried this on another DNS-323 with firmware 1.03 and I can start any executables all right.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Raf

Regardless of FW version this problem exist for me when using MS Vista Business. My two Win XP machines are fine. What OS are you using?

Right-click on the file, choose Properties, and click Unblock

For me, this option doesn't appear in the Properties tab. Which OS are you using?

a google search shows this solution.

Are you able to copy the exe from the dns to your local drive and run it from local? It could be corrupted exe. If it's working then there's some option in gpedit to set

I searched the Internet for weeks, talked with tech support at D-Link, tinkered with protocols and policies all before concluding there isn't a solution.

Re: Can't run executables (.exe) files on DNS-323 firmware 1.04 and 1.05

It is something on your machine doing it.  I have both f/w 1.04 and 1.05 and I just tested it.  I can run .exe files with no problem from the DNS on my Vista machine.  I do get a prompt to verify I want to do this.  Are you sure your Vista security settings allow you to run remote executables?  There are all sorts of settings in Vista for elevation of rights, under user account control in the local security policy.

Are you running a frewall software or virus program?  These can block executable.
